The mystery player that Rafael Benitez has spoken about in an interview with Guillem Balague is none other than Andrea Pirlo. A fee of £19m has been agreed with AC Milan but this will only be announced at the end of the season. It is believed that Pirlo will be replacing Xabi Alonso who will be moving to Barcelona for a fee rumoured to be in the region of £12m.

Andrea Pirlo's agent Norberto Sferato has refused to dismiss speculation linking the player with a move to Liverpool.

"Liverpool have had scouts over to watch him on a couple of occasions and their Italian scout, Stefano Re, even approached me following the Sampdoria game a couple of weeks ago. Pirlo is happy at AC Milan but he'd be a fool to not want to listen to an approach by another club on April 1st."

So, was this an April fools joke Nerik thought of or Caught Offiside thought of?

I thought of it. Funny how other sites pick up the news and make it theirs. Then again nothing surprises me after the official site once copied an article I wrote for Shankly Gates and attributed it to one of their journos.

If I recall, Caught Offiside said something about other sites the rumour is doing the rounds on?

Kop TV ran it first. A couple of other forums did too but not as news, just threads. Great how 19m has been changed to approx 20m so some people make it seem like their own story.

****ers.  Anyway, well done Nerik.  More than 10,000 views in a day for a joke is quite funny and impressive.
