He applied to change his number to 6 in order to build his own brand. 23 is always synomymous with Jordan. Lebron claims it was out of respect to Jordan, but I think that's bullshit, no pun intended. Ah good 'ol 23. The last move in the clip - outwitting two guys on the baseline then serving the facial on Ewing - will forever be etched in dunking lore:

And the real long distance dunks: Was recently reading a SLAM issue dedicated to Jordan, and he talked about the difference between his free throw line takeoff dunk and that done by Dr J. Can you guys spot it from the clip? I think Pippen's dunk should rank a lot higher. Sure, he didn't double-clutch it and there was less power, but he was taking off a lot further than the rest, right on the line. The only guy to take off from there in that clip was Michael at #2; even Dr J at #1 was a bit further in but he started this fever so rightly gets the top spot. Plus, Scottie did it Michael's way.

Dr J just floated to the basket, the technique was sublime, a very slight double movement at the start of the take off but after that he glided. Jordan did his usual climbing the steps routine. Dr J nearly went through the back board such was the explosiveness of his first step. Unreal and definitely number 1. This is even more insane than any of that though:

The difference in the finish aside - Jordan and Pippen both dribbled up and dunked from the FT line. Dr J's run-up was done with ball in hand (same for a few others - and those guys still couldn't take off from the FT line). The others who did the dribble (e.g. Vince Carter, Kemp) ended up mostly about a foot or more in the paint - even Jordan's own attempt in a later tournament (ranked no. 5 in the clip). I think Dr J's was pure leaping ability - he had such a high leap that he could just glide in to finish gallantly. Whereas Jordan's had the technical difficulty of doing a clutch and kick leading to the finish. I've no doubt though that Dr J would've been able to accomplish that as well without any problems. But I think Jordan and Pippen could've glided in too if they didn't do the dribble. If Kemp had been able to take off on the line or just half a foot in, he'd have been up there with those guys. The torque back on his dunk was amazing. Too bad he was just... 2 feet inside the paint.

playoffs start in 18 days, questions over how the lakers are playing and how the kenyon martin injury affects denver in the west whilst in the east the focus is on the surging bucks and slumping celtics

Yeah...Lakers lost last 2. But, I am confident, come playoffs time, we will see LA step it up a get to the finals.

I hope that Denver get Martin fit and George is back to coaching sooner rather than later.
I don't agree that the west is quite the walk over it is made out to be though.

It won't be a walkover, but I think the Lakers will be in the NBA finals come June. I am not so convinced that Cleveland will be there though.

I fancy Cleveland more than the Lakers if Shaq is ready.

Shaq is so injury-prone its not even funny. So, yeah..if he is ready then sure they will be a huge threat. But, he's liable to break dowqn as soon as he is fit as well. If he had been fit when we played Detroit in 2004, I am convinced we would have beaten them. That laker team, talent-wise, was one of the best they ever had.

Denver is it but it all comes down to martin and karl. They've been on the cusp for awhile and i really wanted this year to be the year for them but with injuriess its really going to be tough.
Not that sold on Dallas, trade was great for them but im not sure they could take the lakers.

Evans secured entry into the rookie 20 5 & 5 club today following his 24 point performance against the rockets. Joins MJ, Oscar Robertson & Lebron
Joins Kobe, Lebron as only players to maintain it for the current season.
